The last Day: Winnebacher Weisskogl

1 minute read

Last day of transalp, in this week I met new friends from all over the world, we laughed like never before, we faced wonderful moments but also we felt tension and fear. It has been an unforgettable experience…

After spending an entire day practicing with Beacon and reviewing the emergency procedures in case of avalanche (a very useful activity for the group after the accident on Friday), we moved to Gries im Sulztal, a small village in the north of Stubai Alps, where we started for our last tour of the transalp experience.

From the village, starting early in the morning, we climbed the long valley leading to the Winnebacher refuge. The Lodge is located in an amazing area, surrounded by an incredible amphitheater of peaks, with steep canals and valleys, a magical place in which I absolutely must return. Our goal, the Winnebacher Weisskogl is a summit of 3182m that can be reached quite easily with skis up to the fork, after which you must put on your crampons just to cover the last 50m that lead to the summit, from which you can enjoy of a spectacular 360 view.

The descent took place in east direction, descending towards the refuge westfalenhaus until the crosscountry ski area of Lusens where we found our van ready to bring us to Innsbruck.

Thanks friends, has been a pleasure to share with you this experience, I hope to meet you again for new adventures :)
